Kevin, have you written about or proposed specific ideas related to this?
It seems most of the time churches go from a large gathering to small groups to build intimacy, but the early church was more centered around small/house groups & only met as a large body at the temple. Now, that changed as the church moved out of Jerusalem.
Years ago, I believe the Lord gave me a vision for a different approach to gathering as a church. I never pursued it since God had different plans for me & my wife.
Trip! YES!! I'm a practitioner first and a theorist second. As with most questions, there is a very well thought-out, long answer and a not-so-well thought-out short answer. My long answers are best. But the short answer is that "More Time with Fewer People Produce Better Multiplication Fruit" Meaning the PRIMARY ministry of the gathered church has to be small minstry for big results. BUT, the challenge is that the Sunday gathering takes so much energy/time/money/emotion, we generally don't have the resources to do small well. Therefore, small becomes an extra-curricular activity for the gathering. And we lose the most effective miinstry of the church - living in small micro-families where rich disciple-making happens. I'll connect on DM for the long answer. HAHA!
That’s such a tough balance, leading biblically following unchanging principles, while at the same time making sure our approach matches where we serve. It’s true, society is changing, in many places the church as a building has been tainted to many, and I’ve seen house churches be the only that many would visit
